Numicon

NumiconNumicon is possibly my all time favourite number resource. I’ve yet to find a number concept that wouldn’t benefit from some numicon! This week I’ve used numicon with my teaching group (up to 6 children). We practise laying it out in order, then we count up from 1 to 10 and down from 10 to 1, after that the fun can begin! Each child takes it in turn to hide one of their own pieces behind their back. the rest of the group try to figure out what the missing piece is. I was quite amazed that after a few practices most groups were able to play this game by themselves. It’s also important to practise putting the correct pieces away in the ziplock bag!
